Halloween in Mrs. Hird's Room {which could mean a freebie for you!}

We’re doing Halloween BIG this year in 2nd grade.  We’re still not done, but here’s what we’ve been up to so far!  Keep reading to see how you can win one of my Halloween activities!

I reviewed introduced adjectives to my class this week, and we made Adjective Spiders to show off our new skills, not to mention brag on ourselves a little!

 Each student had to choose 8 adjectives to describe themselves.  I’m pretty obsessed with how cute they look hanging up in our room.

You can grab this activity from my TpT shop by clicking any of the pictures below.

I even included two banner options to use when displaying your spiders {I just didn’t have time to put mine up yet, but it’s adorable, if I do say so myself :)}

Here’s a preview of Spider Adjectives:

There are a ton of options.  If you don’t want your little ones cutting and tracing, there’s a ready-to-go printable option, though I must say my kiddos did an awesome job building their spider selves…and we were under the time crunch of a half-day!

We’re also hard at work on our Wizard’s Hex and Witch’s Spell activities.

Right now we’re getting ready by reading witch and wizard poems and talking about spelling ingredients and rhyming words {included in the packet}!

They are ENCHANTED by it!!!

You can grab this activity by clicking any of the above pictures.  It’s perfect for any elementary grade!

We also made our October Bulletin Board thanks to Valerie.

This craft was surprisingly tough for my 2nd graders to put together.  They had to decide where to paste certain pieces, but it was a good critical thinking exercise!

We’ve still got a few more fall/Halloween projects planned, but I wanted to share what we’ve done so far!

Now on to the good stuff.  I'd love to give a few copies away of either my Wizard's Hex and Witch's Spell activity, or my Spider Adjectives activity.

Leave me a comment telling me your favorite Halloween candy, and I'll randomly pick a winner or two by weekend's end.

Hope you’re enjoying your weekend!

Getting used to life and a FREEBIE!

Well... I (Jenna) have not posted in quite some time. SORRY! I will get better, I promise! Back to School was much more involved this year...It was Back to School and Moving Day all within the same week...yikes! I was not only unpacking my classroom, but my wardrobe..and that is no small task. So aside from all the stress from back to school, I have been trying to make my new house a home.Anyway..I am hopefully getting back into the swing of things!
Anthony and I are currently living in a cute little 1 bedroom in Olde City...aside from the minimal morning traffic and getting gas..I ABSOLUTELY LOVE it! You can basically walk anywhere and there is so much to do, not exactly like I have the time, but when I do at least I have the option! I have been enjoying my afternoon runs by Penn's Landing, at least on those days that I can force myself out of school by 4:15.  I am working at the bar tommorrow night SO I have off all day on Saturday. I told Ant that we will be spending our afternoon walking around town, my luck...it will rain.

We worked with statements and questions last week so here is a little freebie for you.. I am working on a whole punctuation unit so stay tuned! I am getting better at making these worksheets...maybe I will catch up to Halle soon.... maybe not

Hope you enjoy this little freebie ! Happy (almost) Friday!!

What We’ve Been Up To

We’ve been up to our necks in knowledge in 2nd grade!  On top of our regular instruction, our little kiddos have been taking MAPS.  This is our first year with the MAPS assessment, and the kids loooooove it.  I’ve never seen them so excited about a test!  I know myself, Jenna, and our grade partner Erica are anxious to get the reports back and really dissect the data, and come up with a plan of attack.

Do you MAPS? What do you think of it?

We’re also doing a major overhaul of our report card.  We used to give letter grades, but we’re moving to Progressing {P}, Developing {D}, and Needs Improvement {NI}.

 I’m curious…what do you do for report cards where you teach?

Here’s a peek into our week in pictures.  We’re really getting into a routine with math games and Read to Self.  I am loving seeing my kiddos so engaged in everything!

Our EnVisions math games can be pretty fun too!  I always laminate the Topic Openers from EnVisons because of the games on the back, and let them play them for the rest of the unit.

I also wanted to show our torn paper collages we made, and hung up for Back to School Night.  They’re too cute!

Adorable, right?

I’ll be back sometime soon with a post on how Halloween has thrown up in decorated our room.

Here’s a little sneak peek ;)
